Cameras paid for by residents, owned by the community
The PNW Street Camera Project is an initiative of the Plumstead Neighbourhood Watch — a registered, City-approved community organisation working to make our streets safer.
We install street-facing cameras on local properties throughout the PNW precinct, adding them into a single management system, and use the footage to support investigations and patrols. Management of the camera system rests with PNW. Funding comes from residents and local businesses through one-off donations and monthly contributions.
Crime in our community doesn't respect boundaries. Single-property cameras protect single properties. A coordinated network of street-level cameras helps the entire neighbourhood — supporting SAPS investigations, deterring opportunists, and giving our patrollers eyes on the ground when they need them.
The project complements — it does not replace — your alarm, armed response, or PNW's foot and vehicle patrols. Think of it as one more tool in the box in our fight against crime.
The Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Plumstead Neighbourhood Watch oversees the project. Day-to-day operations are managed by the PNW Street Camera Project Team, a group of dedicated volunteers. The project is:
The project is driven by a small team of volunteers who give their time, experience, and energy to make the network a reality. Every member below is unpaid and committed to keeping our streets safer.
Our target is 300 cameras across the PNW precinct within 5 years, at an operational rate of at least 5 new cameras a month. The pace depends entirely on the rate of donations and the availability of suitable host sites. Get involved, help make a difference.
A donation funds the next camera. Hosting a camera adds another street to our coverage.
