The Plumstead Neighbourhood Watch NPC ("PNW") takes the protection of personal information seriously. This notice summarises how we comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 ("POPIA"), and how you can exercise your rights as a data subject. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

The Information Officer is responsible for ensuring our compliance with POPIA, dealing with data subject requests, and engaging with the Information Regulator on our behalf.
Our processing conditions
We process personal information in line with the eight conditions for lawful processing set out in POPIA:
- Accountability — the Information Officer is accountable for compliance.
- Processing limitation — we collect only what is necessary, and only with a lawful basis.
- Purpose specification — we tell you why we are collecting the information and use it only for that purpose.
- Further processing limitation — we do not re-use information for unrelated purposes.
- Information quality — we take reasonable steps to keep information accurate and up to date.
- Openness — this notice and our Privacy Policy explain what we do.
- Security safeguards — we apply appropriate technical and organisational measures.
- Data subject participation — we respect your rights as set out below.
Your rights
As a data subject you have the right to:
- Be notified that personal information about you is being collected, and where applicable, that it has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person.
- Establish whether we hold personal information about you, and to request access to it.
- Request correction or deletion of personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading, or obtained unlawfully.
- Object to the processing of your personal information.
- Submit a complaint to the Information Regulator.
- Institute civil proceedings regarding alleged interference with the protection of your personal information.
How to make a request
Send your request to the Information Officer by email or post (details above). Please include:
- Your full name and contact details.
- Sufficient information for us to identify you (for verification, not retention).
- A clear description of the information or action you are requesting.
We will acknowledge receipt and aim to respond within 30 days. Requests for access may be subject to a prescribed fee in line with POPIA regulations.
Complaints to the Regulator
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa):
